If I were not an atheist, I would believe in a God who would choose to save people on the basis of the totality of their lives and not the pattern of their words. I think he would prefer an honest and righteous atheist to a TV preacher whose every word is God, God, God, and whose every deed is foul, foul, foul. I would also want a God who would not allow a Hell. Infinite torture can only be a punishment for infinite evil, and I don’t believe that infinite evil can be said to exist even in the case of Hitler. Besides, if most human governments are civilized enough to try to eliminate torture and outlaw cruel and unusual punishments, can we expect anything less of an all-merciful God? I feel that if there were an afterlife, punishment for evil would be reasonable and of a fixed term. And I feel that the longest and worst punishment should be reserved for those who slandered God by inventing Hell. — Isaac Asimov

But, saying that, people tend to get offended when you voice your opinion. If someone walks up to an Atheist and says “I’m Christian!” there’s nothing offensive about that. But, from my experience, if an Atheist tells a Christian that they are, indeed, Atheist, the Christian will get extremely offended for what seems to be no reason. I’m not saying that this applies to everyone, because I know that it doesn’t. But a vast majority of people that I know would react that way.

I would never tell anyone that they’re wrong for what they believe in. But on a regular basis, I get called a Satanist, told that I’m a horrible person, that I’m going to hell and that I’m wrong all the time because of my beliefs. 

I’m not a Satanist, I just don’t believe in God. Okay. If I’m respecting your beliefs, can you at least try to respect mine? .-.

My situation is almost like hers. My religious belief isn’t that strong.  But that doesn’t mean I’m a horrible person right?
